At The Assumption Junior School the children assemble once a month to celebrate achievements and awards from that month. We also remember and celebrate saints and people, important to The Assumption Junior School.

Mary Aikenhead was a very important person to us at The Assumption National School.
Mary Aikenhead was born in Cork on January 19th, 1787. She founded the Sisters of Charity in 1815. Mary Aikenhead died on the 22nd July 1958. 100 years later the Sisters of Charity founded our school, The Assumption Junior School. We celebrate Mary Aikenhead each year on the 19th of January. We remember this date as it is Mary's birthday. We learn about all the good things that she had done and we celebrate her life by having an assembly in remembrance of her. |

Sr Lorraine spoke at our assembly and told us of her life as a sister in the Sisters of Charity. She also told us of the wonderful person that Mary Aikenhead was, and all the good, she had done for others during her lifetime. |
