Christmas Annuals

The Book Fair comes to the Junior School this week, running from Thursday 3rd to Tuesday 8th December. Books will be on display and for sale in the Blue Hall each day from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. and from 1.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m..
Last year some parents helped out with the organisation and selling of books and we could do with similar assistance this year. If you could be available at any of the times, on any of the days listed, we would be glad to hear from you.
One of our goals in school is to encourage children to enjoy reading and to expose them to as many good children’s books as possible. With this in mind, the School Book Fair might be a good opportunity for some early Christmas shopping and an opportunity to encourage early reading at home as well.
Much needed funds will be raised from the sale of these books, which in turn replenishes the school and class libraries.

We celebrated World Book Day in a big way this year at The Assumption.
There was great fun and many activities going on throughout the school.
As part of World Book Day we decided to group older children up with the younger children in the school for some paired reading.

Children and staff dressed up as a character from their favourite book or story.
On World Book Day each child received a book token to the value of €1.50. This book token can be put towards the cost of a book or used to buy a book. As part of world book day there are 10 books in the bookshops that can be exchanged for this book token. Click here for more information and fun activities in connection with World Book Day. |

We had art and writing competitions held throughout the school. Children did illustrations and pieces of writing from their favourite book.
